Do you mail monthly invoices to clients? Or perhaps you email a bill after each service you perform or job you complete? If you’re not doing it already, here is an extremely easy way to increase your sales…
Include a marketing piece along with your invoice.
Your client knows they owe you money, so they’re going to open any mail you send them. This is true whether you’re sending snail mail or email. Don’t discount the importance of this connection with your client! You’ve already cleared the first hurdle all marketing efforts run into — getting the potential customer to open and read (or listen to) what you want them to.
In the case of an invoice sent by mail, including an additional piece is most likely not going to increase your postage. So, your only cost for this type of marketing is designing and printing the piece you include. Here’s an idea: throw in an attractive flyer or card highlighting a special or a service you are offering only to existing clients. Better yet, make it personalized by using variable data publishing. If your client trusts you, and what you are selling is designed to benefit them, they are more likely to buy from you than your competitor. Even if they don’t buy what you offer them right away, at least now they know you provide those additional products or services.
If you do your billing by email, you’ve got a couple of options. Either include a .pdf flyer or coupon of your special, or include a link to a landing page on your website where the details of the offer are outlined. If you plan ahead you’ll be able to properly track the source of new business you generate as a result of this marketing, whether on paper or online.
Anyway, like I said, this is an easy thing to do and the results really can be impressive. Give it a shot for a few months and let us know how it goes. Until next time…
