New equipment: Roland print/cut

We just expanded our capabilities (yet again) with an award winning wide format machine that prints ultra high-resolution graphics on various materials and then die cuts the art! Our new RolandDGA TruVis VG2-640 is an eco-solvent printer that creates full-color die-cut graphics such as uniquely shaped stickers and window graphics, plus long-lasting outdoor vinyl, same-day roll-up banners, and more.

This machine will certainly help us in our efforts to never have to say “no, we can’t do that here.”

As a bonus, we found room to fit this monster on the ground floor of our shop. No crane necessary!

Ecommerce returns!

Over a year ago we ditched our ecommerce platform. You can read about that decision here, but let’s just say Woo wasn’t cutting it. We promised that if we found a solution that fit our business, we would implement it. Well, that time has come. Our new system has been created and fine-tuned for the custom printing business.

In the coming days we’ll be launching a new system. [update: it’s live at shop.kkpdc.com] Once implemented there will be 3 basic options for getting print projects into production with us:

  1. Design your own products — business cards, cards + invitations, t-shirts, etc. — using our new online design tool (either from a template or from scratch, depending on the project)
  2. Upload camera-ready art, properly sized and with 0.125″ bleed and trim areas if applicable
  3. Work with one of our in-house graphics pros to get your layout perfect

Obviously if you elect to use 1 or 2 above, you will save money. And in doing so you’ll free us up to work with customers who need more hands-on help.

We’re looking forward to ironing out the process with you all!

New equipment, new capabilities, new pricing

We don’t buy our digital printing presses. Since these devices become obsolete in less than a decade, it just doesn’t make sense to purchase them.

While we do purchase specialty printing equipment such as DTG and wide format, we always lease digital presses. That means we end up with the latest and greatest equipment every 3-5 years… and no obsolete equipment.

Did you happen to see that giant crane in Cady’s Alley last week? That was for us. We had to shut down the alley again (a la 2015) so a new Konica Minolta digital press could be “delivered” to the second floor.

New equipment always means better quality prints and faster print speeds. This cycle it also means the capability to print on thicker stock. Our newest press is rated at 400gsm (150# cover) which is a good step up from 350gsm (130#). This new AccurioPress comes with an automatic registration component, so the days of manually aligning front and back images on different stocks is over!

New equipment also comes with new service contracts which means different pricing. This cycle that means since we will pay less, you as the customer will pay less! If you’ve requested a quote from us in the past and we weren’t competitive enough to get your business, give us another shot! You will be pleasantly surprised at our ability to deliver a top-notch print project at a reasonable price.

Recent projects, see them on Pinterest

After a bit of research we decided that Pinterest would be a good fit for showing off some of the work we do.

The plan is to take photos of various projects and post them on our “Recent Projects” board. Some will be jobs designed by us, others will be designed elsewhere but printed here. The idea is to give some visuals on the vast array of projects we are able to complete right here in our studio in Cady’s Alley.
