Hours

We’re open 9:00am to 5:30pm weekdays — closed only on major Holidays. We’re available on weekends by appointment. To get us involved in your after-hours project, the best way to reach us is by email or completing one of the contact forms on our website.
Back to FAQ

Getting started

Getting started on a project depends on what stage you’re in. Go here to figure out where you are in the process and how we can best help you. If you’re truly ready to get started, we can do things in person or electronically. Many customers prefer to come in and meet us and go over specs, materials and pricing. You can walk in any time during business hours to get started this way. Others like to send us their art (or various elements of their project that we’ll be working with such as logos or proposed text or content) via email or upload.
Back to FAQ

Sending files

For files smaller than 50mb, you can email them to us; upload them here; or start a chat session and use the drop down menu. We always prefer clients send us high-resolution PDF/X-1a compliant files (for garments please send .jpg or .png files with transparent backgrounds). For more information, check out our requirements/settings page.
Back to FAQ

Turnaround times

Turnaround time depends on your project details but we finish jobs extremely fast once the order is placed. Many jobs are completed on the same day, but you will want to check out this schedule of turnaround times to see how quickly we can finish yours. If we don’t have a certain paper or material in stock it generally takes us 1 day get them. Of course if your job requires design time or is large or complex, it will take us more time to finish it. We never accept jobs we can’t complete by a deadline that we’re made aware of. Our Customer Satisfaction Policy covers this.
Back to FAQ

Parking

There is plenty of street parking near our shop, on M Street and on side-streets. We have a parking pad with 2 spots outside our front door. If you schedule your visit with us, we can make sure parking is not an issue.
Back to FAQ

Delivery

Yes, we deliver. We even offer same day delivery for many jobs. Delivery in DC is free for orders over $200. Other local deliveries are typically $19. Please let us know about delivery at the time of your order, along with the date you need it in-hand, so we can confirm our ability to meet your deadline. For out-of-town clients coming to DC for an event, trade-show, convention, etc., we can deliver to your hotel, conference center or meeting place. For clients traveling away from DC, we can ship your order to you on the road.

Equipment

We are constantly updating our equipment to make sure we can create top-quality work product. We just went through another upgrade to all of our digital presses, including a new Konica that duplexes 350gsm stocks and a Xante that prints on 500gsm stock. We also added a new cutter, perfect binder, creaser, wide format scanner, more. Our goal is to equip ourselves to handle every job we take in-house. And while we do occasionally outsource things like extremely large wide format, special die-cut, embossed or foil-stamped projects, in these cases our customers have confidence in the outcome because we oversee the jobs from start to finish. Here is a list of all the equipment in our shop.
Back to FAQ

Appointments

You don’t need an appointment. There is rarely much of a wait to speak with one of our staff. However, if you’d like to make an appointment in advance you can do that too. Depending on the project, we could also send someone out to meet with you.
Back to FAQ

After hours jobs

Our shop may close, but we really never stop working. If you have a job that is important enough for us to discuss and/or complete outside of our normal business hours, Email us the details or visit this page. If the project is a good fit, we may take it on.
Back to FAQ

Is there a price list?

No.* Since there are so many different variables possible with each project (designs, papers, materials, qualities and quantities, colors, sizes, finishing, etc.) we use special software to generate pricing. All the elements needed to give accurate pricing can be found here. You can give us the details of your project and we’ll send you a written estimate.
Back to FAQ

Hourly rates

Our hourly rate for graphic and web design is $120, but we can agree in advance on a flat fee for design work. Some pricing for graphics can be found here.
Back to FAQ

Payment terms

Unless you have an account with us, you should expect to pay for your job in full at pickup. In some cases, such as design-only projects, a deposit may be required before we begin work. We accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. You can pay online or in person. Request an electronic invoice to pay online.
Back to FAQ

Specials and discounts

Members of our mailing list get specials delivered to their inbox. We send out at most one email per month and each includes a special discount or service offered only to list members. There are links on the site in various places to sign up.
Back to FAQ

Set-up fees, proof fees

If your file can be quickly prepared for printing by one of our designers or staff members, you will not be charged. We consider this assistance included in our pricing. In the event your job requires more than a quick fix, we’ll let you know and give you an estimate of the time and cost — our design rate is $120/hour. For most small format jobs we do not charge for a hardcopy proof.
Back to FAQ

Rush fees

We don’t charge rush fees. If we accept your job it is because we are sure we can meet your deadline.
Back to FAQ

Paying online

When we email you an invoice, you can easily and securely pay with a credit card or Paypal.
Back to FAQ

Same day business cards

Yes, we can do this. If your cards are ready to print, please send them to us 1-up — we’ll handle imposing them. If your cards have bleeds, include 1/8″ extensions as well as crop marks. If your cards aren’t designed yet, we may be able to design them and print them the same day. If you absolutely need business cards today, the earlier you call us the more likely we can finish your job on the same day. Ask around and you’ll find we are well known for fast, high-quality printing in DC.
Back to FAQ

Signs, posters and banners

We print posters as well as indoor and outdoor banners and signs made from a variety of materials. For posters you can choose between plain paper, matte coated paper and photo gloss. We offer same day poster printing (including foam core board mounted posters and laminated posters). Some banners (such as large building banners and backdrops with or without frames) can take longer.
Back to FAQ

Turnaround times for signs, posters and banners

Turnaround times depend on the size of the item as well as the ink coverage. Small wide format prints with light ink coverage print very quickly. Large wide format prints with heavy ink coverage take longer to print and dry. When you add any finishing requirements such as mounting or grommetting, this adds to the production time. However, most poster and banner projects are still a same day service.
Back to FAQ

Event signage

We can definitely help with your event signage (and actually, anything you need created or printed for your event). We can give you advice about the right materials and layouts. If you need it, we can design attractive indoor or outdoor banners as well as directional or informational signage. And we can deliver everything on the day you need it.
Back to FAQ

Photo printing

We can print photos from your digital files. We also copy original photos and offer retouching services to clean them up before printing or digitizing. We do not print photos from negatives. We can reduce or enlarge your photos to any size you want.
Back to FAQ

Papers we stock

We stock a lot of different paper brands, colors and types. Smooth, textured, linen, laid, matte coated, gloss coated, watercolor, parchment, more. From lightweight, translucent stocks to pastels and bright colored papers, to high-quality bond papers, to 130# cover stocks, and everything in between, there are many options for you to check out here. Some of our top brands include Cougar, Hammermill, Sterling, Mohawk, Neenah and Strathmore. We recommend that you always see a hardcopy proof of your job on the stock you’ve chosen, just to be sure it will look and feel like you expect it to.
Back to FAQ

Bleed settings

If you want your prints to bleed, please send us art that is set up properly — correct document size plus 0.125 inch bleed and trim areas plus crop marks. (Note: for wide format prints, please use 0.25 inch bleed and trim areas.) For more information please look over our file requirements. Contact us directly for more help.
Back to FAQ

Can you print on MY paper?

It sounds like you have your own card stock or you bought pre-cut cards, invitations or envelopes elsewhere. While we’d prefer you use our stock (we like to use materials that are perfectly suited to our equipment), we can probably print on your paper. Pricing will depend upon how difficult the job will be. Please always bring more materials than you need! For textured materials or stock that has already been cut to size, we’ll need extras in order to set up your job up properly. It’s also quite likely that some will be damaged or destroyed in the process of printing. If you have material you’d like to use for a wide format job, call us! We can probably print on those too.
Back to FAQ

Printing from email

We have self-service computers with internet access but it’s easier to send us the file. Wi-Fi is available for you to complete your work here on your own device. For those proficient with design software, our self-service computers have Adobe Creative Suite.
Back to FAQ

Pens, mugs, etc.

We do custom pens and mugs. We also sell other promotional items such as bags, hats, tools, glassware, golf accessories, keyrings and more. All of these items can be customized with your business information or message. Visit our Branded Promotional Items page to learn more.
Back to FAQ

T-shirt printing

Yes, we print short and long sleeve t-shirts and other garments. We are ready to help you or your business, team, family or other group show off your colors. If you need a design for your clothes, we can do that too. We use a digital printing process to put high resolution imageson clothing with ultra-fast turnaround times. If you need hundreds or thousands of garments, we will use a screen printing process instead.
Back to FAQ

Set-up fees for t-shirts

There is a one-time $30 setup charge, regardless of artwork and volume. The setup charge includes a virtual proof.

Design overview

Our very capable design team can create anything. We especially enjoy helping our clients with their marketing. This includes complete corporate identity packages. From logos, business cards, brochures and other print marketing and presentation materials; to web graphics and websites… we can help your business deliver a consistent message across all media. We also design lots of invitations, flyers, postcards, posters and programs.
Back to FAQ

Web design + site maintenance

We like to help integrate marketing materials (including web assets) into a cohesive, complimentary package. We can update your current site, do a redesign, or create a brand new site for you from scratch. You can find more information about our website work here and get a general breakdown of pricing for web design here. Many of our clients count on us to host and update their websites after we design them. And we don’t just build sites, we help our clients with analytics and optimize their sites to get better and better results over time.
Back to FAQ

Logo design

Pricing for logo design depends on how complex your design is. However, 2 hours of design time is usually enough for some samples plus a couple rounds of revisions, so $240 is a good estimate for many logo design projects. If your logo is important to you, consider trusting us with the design.
Back to FAQ

Print + digital versions

When we print your hardcopy version we can even customize it for your individual list members. Then we can create an interactive digital version for distribution and use electronically, in a mobile-responsive format. Some of your clients or members may prefer one version over the other, and we can help you give them the information they want in the format they want it.
Back to FAQ

Photo editing + retouching (Photoshop)

Our graphic designers can touch up old or damaged photos. They can remove redeye, fix tears, cracks and spots. They can even photoshop your ex-boyfriend right out of your favorite photo. Poof! Our graphic design rate is $120 per hour.
Back to FAQ

Scanning

We can scan documents, pictures, etc. to your email. We can also save them to a flash drive or burn a CD for you. Files can be saved as .pdf, .jpg, .tif, etc. in black and white, grayscale or color with your choice of resolution up to 600dpi.
Back to FAQ

Wide format scanning

We do offer wide-format scanning for larger documents — we can scan documents up to 36″ wide. The document cannot be rigid… if your item is in a frame you will need to find a vendor with a large flatbed scanner. Our largest flatbed is 11×17.
Back to FAQ

Pricing for scanning

Pricing for scanning depends on the size, shape and condition of the originals. If they can be put in the document feeder the price is considerably less than if they need to be hand-placed and edited or cropped.
Back to FAQ

We offer complete mail shop services. We can print your project (including mail merge/variable data), fold and insert everything into your envelope, include return cards or remittance envelopes, permit or stamp, seal, tab, etc., and deliver it all to the post office at the agreed time.
Back to FAQ

Fees for mail shop services
