Gift idea: turn a special photo into a mounted poster

What good are photos if they sit on your hard drive and you never see them?

Here’s a great gift idea for that special friend or family member… take one of his/her favorite photos, enlarge to poster size and mount on foam core board. Mounted posters make wonderful, lasting gifts.

These poster boards can be literally any size you want. So if you have a high-resolution photo of the view from your honeymoon balcony, or an action photo of your son playing his favorite sport, or perhaps a cute shot of your beloved pet, we can crop or re-size to create a custom gift that fills any space in your home or office. We can even touch up (Photoshop) a photo to give the exact look you want.

Think outside the box this year and give a gift that will be eagerly received!

Questions we get about poster printing

Here are some questions we get asked about printing posters. Hopefully this little Q&A will help you with your next wide format print job.

1. Do you print posters at your shop or do you outsource?
We print posters (and banners) here. We mount them on foam board here. We laminate them here. So you should feel quite comfortable knowing that when we take your job and promise it will be ready by a certain date and time, we’ll get it done. We’re not relying on anyone else.

2. What size posters do you print?
We print posters of all sizes. If your print is larger than 13″ x 19″, it is a job that we’ll need to print on one of our wide format printers rather than on one of our digital presses, and that makes it a poster. And while there are some standard posters sizes — such as 24″ x 36″ and 18″ x 24″ — if your art is a different size, it’s not a problem. We can print it.

3. Can you enlarge a photo or file and print it poster size?
Yes we do enlargements and make posters, but the quality of the print will depend on the resolution of your original file or photo. The higher the resolution, the better. Taking a small photo, scanning it and making it big can result in the final being unclear and/or pixelated. The best way to figure out sizing is to send us your art/file or bring in your photo and we’ll be able to determine how big you can go with it and still maintain the quality you desire.

4. How can I make a poster stand up on an easel?
If you need your poster to sit on an easel, you’ll want to have it mounted on foam board. This is a rigid material 3/16″ thick which we attach your poster to using adhesive. Another option is a self-contained solution — easel backs which we attach to the mounted poster to enable it to stand up on its own. Easel backs come in a variety of sizes.

5. How much do posters cost?
Pricing depends on several factors including the media we’ll be printing on (premium gloss paper, premium matte paper, or plain paper for example), the square footage of your art, whether it is full color or black & white, and any finishing requirements. You can request an exact price for your job by visiting our Wide Format Printing page and giving us the details. You can also visit this page and get pricing for some common poster sizes, papers and finishings.

6. I want my poster laminated. How big can it be?
We can laminate anything up to 42″ wide (3.5 feet) by 120″ long (10 feet).

7. Do you design posters?
Of course! We can design anything that can be printed here. Of course a lot of what we print here was designed by somebody else. That’s fine too!

So did we cover it all? Or do you have more questions about poster printing? Feel free to ask your questions in the comments section below…

5 things you definitely still have to print

Sure, technology is changing how people do things, but there are definitely things that must be printed. Here are our top 5 (in no particular order):

1. Signs, posters and banners. No surprise here… Wide format prints will always be a great way to attract attention, announce a new product or service, or alert your customers of an event or special promotion. If you have retail space and aren’t taking advantage of this opportunity to promote your business, you need to reconsider.

2. Bound presentation materials. When you have an important sales presentation, you need to make a great impression. One great way to do this is to present a full color, coil-bound book to each member of your audience. A power point presentation is simply not going to do the trick. Your target needs to see and feel the quality of your products or services.

3. Invitations. Email is unreliable, impersonal and, well, to be honest, cheap! If you want to be sure you guest list actually receives, reads and considers your invitation, the best way is still snail mail.

4. Business cards. Still the easiest way to share your contact information, business cards are a great, economical way to make the right first impression. So many ways to make your card an original!

5. Custom marketing materials. The latest craze is social media marketing, but a business that ignores the power of professionally designed brochures, pamphlets, sell sheets, and other promotional materials, is relying way too much on a single element of what should be a comprehensive marketing strategy.

We can design, print (and mail) all of these materials and more.

What do you print? Do you agree or disagree with our list? Let us hear your thoughts below…

Lamination … from cards to posters

In this shop we use heated roll laminators to protect cards, important documents, window signs, posters and more. We have several machines here with varying widths as well as varying thicknesses of lamination film.

wide format laminatorHow do heated roll laminators work? Well, once you fire them up, heated rollers melt the glue which has been applied to the lamination film as it is fed through the machine. There are two rolls of film used in the lamination process — one roll on top and the other on the bottom. The glue is on the inside of the films as they meet at the rollers. As the glue is heated and the document is pushed through the machine, the top and bottom films adhere to one another as well as the subject media. Voila!

We get a lot of calls asking what is the largest thing we can laminate. Our largest in-house width for lamination is 44 inches. There is no maximum length. So, if you have a poster that is 3.5 feet wide and 12 feet long (or longer), we can definitely laminate it for you. Hey, we can even design it, print it and laminate it for you! 🙂 We also laminate posters that have been mounted on foam board. And in case you didn’t know, lamination not only protects, it also beautifies.

Do you have any questions about lamination? Feel free to ask!
